A 2023 Forage study, found the top resources college students rely on for career research are family members (52 percent), social media (45 percent), and YouTube (44 percent).
From a variety of research, it’s vehemently noted that it’s imperative for students to gain more knowledge about careers through one-on-one meetings with professionals in the industries they desire. More views and opinions about the profession can educate the student about said career. I inform students to meet with at least 5 or more in an occupation or industry they desire that have 5+ years in the field and 2 that have left that profession so they can learn why someone would depart their anticipated career. Getting 1 opinion from 1 online influencer is fine but basing your decision on this person is risky. Acquiring an occupation you desire will take a while and if your research is done properly, it should pay off big time!
